Biography

FRED
LACHOTZKI

Througout my career I have been
able to fuse the worlds of business

leadership and academic rigor - infact, I'm pleased to be known as a 'Pracademic'.

He is also known to many as Professor Lachotzki, having served Nyenrode Business University for 50 years alongside his executive functions. As a member of the Nyenrode Business University faculty, he was appointed part-time Full Professor of Strategy in 1988 and was named Philip Morris Professor of Strategic Entrepeneurship in 1998, and has chaired the NCD-Nyenrode Commissarissen Cyclus. Today in addition to his professorship, he is co-chairman of the Strategy Center and co-Chairs the Nyenrode New Board Program.
He has written numerous cases and teaching notes on strategy and board performance, covering organizations in the private and public sectors.

His studies include Nyenrode University (1968), University of Oregon (1970), and the PMD program at Harvard Business School, sponsored by AHOLD, in 1975.

Fred Lachotzki is a seasoned executive who has served and continues to serve on several

company boards, both in an executive and non-executive capacity, within the Netherlands and internationally.

He has enjoyed a fast-track business career in the retail sector, which placed hium in key positions of responsibility at a ypoung age (while still in his early 20s), playing a key role in,among other things, establishing a liquor store division (Alberto/Gall & Gall) which still dominates this sector in the Dutch market today. Afterwards he went on to serve as president of a number of key AHOLD N.V. divisions, including restaurant and recreation as well as the hypermarket group. In 1981 he received the Dutch Sales Manager of the year Award.

In 1984, he left AHOLD to be appointed Deputy Director of the Executive Board of Unigro N.V., one of two leading Dutch wholesale/retail food companies. During that time Fred was instrumental in repositioning and restructuring the ocmpany and its retailers. Following five years at Unigro, he then joined ASKO AG, a publicly traded German-based international retailer where he served as a member of the Executive Board and later Vice-Chairman.

Lachotzki has a range of non-executive board experiences (often as chairman), including Interdiscount AG (Germany), Co-op (Germany), Virgin Retail (UK), FDC Furr's (USA), PRG (USA), Unisono (China), DKV Deutsche Krankenversicherung Nederland (Netherlands), Hans Anders (Netherlands), Frog Navigation Systems (Netherlands), Business Art Services (Netherlands), Codi International (Netherlands), Merison Retail (Netherlands), Hevea International, Dunlop Protective Footwear (Netherlands) and MeyerMonitor (Netherlands). From May 2007 he has served as treasurer of the foundation Cultureel Erfgoed Portugees Israƫlitische Gemeente. From May 2014 he serves as a a member of the Audit Committee of Europa Nostra.

"Fred Lachotzki has a long and distinguished record of service to International Executive Boards.
Many CEOs and Chairmen value him as board member and adviser for his deep experience and sound
evidence-based methods. He is committed to finding ways to protect the well-being and continued life of the companies and leaders he serves. Fred is also a master teacher and professor of Business Policy, where he translates his considerable experience into case studies and analytical tools for the next generation of business leaders. Fred perseveres when others have lost the stamina for rigorous inquiry and open dialogue. He goes the extra mile with any project that connects with his passions, be it in business, the arts or competitive sailing."
